Arsenal striker, Olivier Giroud, says his scorpion
kick goal was better than Manchester United
forward, Henrikh Mkhitaryan’s effort.
Both players scored in similarly outrageous style
within the space of a few days and the Frenchman
described the situation as “crazy.”
Giroud’s effort was against Crystal Palace on New
Year Day, flicking out his left foot and sending the
ball over goalkeeper Wayne Hennessey in off the
crossbar.
While Mkhitaryan scored in similarly astonishing
fashion at Old Trafford against Sunderland less
than a week prior and his goal was voted Goal of
the Month for December.
However, the Arsenal man believes his was the
better of the two scorpion kicks.
He told Sky Sports, “Actually, they were teasing
me, saying that the Mkhitaryan one was better!
“It’s crazy that two similar goals were scored in
one week. I don’t know if I got inspired, it’s
destiny.
“He did very well as well, but I think mine is better!
But to be serious it was funny in the dressing
room, we were all surprised by what happened.”
The French striker has scored seven goals in the
league this season as the Gunners sit fourth in the
table, eight points behind leaders Chelsea.
