It was a hard-fought victory over Middlesbrough, arresting their recent rally, with impressive away draws against other title contenders City and Arsenal, and it was Eden Hazard who made the difference.
Middlesbrough had refused to let Chelsea settle. In their faces they harried and hassled – and targeted Hazard. Chelsea’s driving force took a buffeting. But eventually the visitors upped the pressure. As well as Middlesbrough had played – with a central midfield of Adam Clayton and Adam Forshaw working hard – they had created little as Alvaro Negredo struggled.
