‘Rooney Will Lift EFL CUP Today Even If He Doesn’t Play’- Jose Mourinho Confirms

Manchester United manager, Jose Mourinho, has confirmed that Wayne Rooney will be allowed to lift the EFL Cup on Sunday, even if he doesn’t play in the final.

United take on Southampton for the first silverware of the season at Wembley.

Rooney has lost his place in the team and was recently linked with a move away. But he ended speculation this week, with a statement announcing he will stay at Old Trafford .

Mourinho is unsure if he will play any part in the final, but made it clear he was still United captain.

“I think he’s our captain. Playing or being on the bench – he’s always our captain,” he told MUTV.

“But I don’t care. We just want to win. If we win, I don’t care who lifts the cup. I just want to win the match.
“He is our captain but I don’t think he cares, I don’t think anyone does. We all just want to win.”

Jamie Vardy Denies Influencing Ranieri’s Sacking In Leicester City (Read)

Jamie Vardy has slammed claims a breakdown in his relationship with Claudio Ranieri played a key role in the Leicester manager’s shock sacking.

Ranieri was dismissed by Leicester’s Thai owners on Thursday, less than a year after masterminding his team’s fairytale Premier League title triumph.

The Italian’s exit was widely suggested to have been linked to him losing the support of senior Leicester players including Vardy.

Vardy has been a shadow of the player whose goals and work ethic played such a big role in Leicester’s success and it was claimed he may have told the club’s owners that relegation was possible if Ranieri stayed.

But, just hours after Leicester dropped into the relegation zone on Saturday ahead of their clash with Liverpool on Monday, England striker Vardy took to Instagram to defend himself.

“I must have written and deleted my words to this post a stupid amount of times. I owed Claudio to find the right and appropriate words. Claudio has and always will have my complete respect,” he wrote.

“What we achieved together and as a team was the impossible. He believed in me when many didn’t and for that I owe him my eternal gratitude.

“There is speculation I was involved in his dismissal and this completely untrue, unfounded and is extremely hurtful.

“The only thing we are guilty of as a team is underachieving which we all acknowledge both in the dressing room and publicly and will do our best to rectify.

Cashless Policy: Banks Set To Charge N150,000 On Every N5M Withdrawal

The Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has announced that new charges on deposits and withdrawal made by Nigerians in Banks.

In a circular released, the apex bank said the decision was made at the 493rd bankers committee meeting that held on February 8.

The CBN also said it would extend its cashless policy to the remaining 30 states which were not implementing the policy.

“Please be informed that the bankers committee at its 493rd meeting held on February 8 reviewed the cashless policy charges on withdrawal and deposit and decided that the policy be extended to the 30 remaining states of the federation,” the circular read.

According to the CBN, for individuals, deposits ranging from N500,000 to N1 million will attract a 1.5% charge, while withdrawals within the same range would attract 2% charge.

Deposits of amounts above N1m to N5m will attract 2% and withdrawals will attract 3% charge. Deposits and withdrawals above N5m will attract 3% and 7.5% charge respectively.

In the corporate category, the CBN said that deposits and withdrawals below N3m will not attract charges. Deposits and withdrawals between N3m and N10m will attract 2% and 5% respectively, while deposits and withdrawals between N10m and N40m will attract 3% and 7.5% respectively. Deposits and withdrawals above N40m will attract 5% and 10% respectively.

“The new charges would take effect from April 1 in the existing cashless states (Lagos, Ogun, Kano, Abia, Anambra, Rivers and the FCT). The policy shall be implemented with the charges taking effect on May 1 in the following states: Bauchi, Bayelsa, Delta, Enugu, Gombe, Imo, Kaduna, Ondo, Osun and Plateau,” the circular read.

“The policy shall be implemented with the charges taking effect on August 1 in Edo, Katsina, Jigawa, Niger, Oyo, Adamawa, Akwa-Ibom, Ebonyi, Taraba and Nasarawa. The policy shall be implemented with the charges taking effect on October 1 in Borno, Benue, Ekiti, Cross-River, Kebbi, Kogi, Kwara, Yobe, Sokoto and Zamfara.”

CBN said the income generated from the charges would be shared between it and the banks in a ratio of 40:60.

It said exemptions would only be available for the government, diplomatic missions, embassies and aid donor agencies.

Signs that there is trouble in their home emerged last year, with latest information from the actress pointing to the fact that she has moved out of Churchill’s home.

He says, “I wonder where they got such a ‘gist’ from. I don’t believe my wife will say that. Besides, I frown on such. This is apart from the fact that my foundation preaches against domestic violence at some of our charity awareness campaigns.

“It is obvious that these attacks are aimed at dragging my image and what I believe in in the mud. Well, the truth is that I have never raised my hands against my wife. I have evidence of CCTV cameras in my mum’s house when this happened. It can be replayed if you want us to go that far.”

Concerning the alleged unholy affair, he insists that it is a baseless rumour. “It’s funny to me because I don’t have any female personal assistant. My PA is Mr. Paul, who has been working with me over the years. Besides, it was a sponsored blackmail,” Churchill notes.

Manchester United legend, Eric Cantona, has praised Zlatan Ibrahimovic for helping the younger players at the club.

Ibrahimovic has become a key player at Old Trafford, following his summer move from Paris Saint-Germain and leads in their goalscoring charts with 15 goals in 24 Premier League games.

Cantona says the 35-year-old is like him, in the way he tries to help youngsters develop.

INEC staff kidnapped, released in Rivers

The Independent National Electoral Commission, INEC, said on Saturday that one of its staffers kidnapped during the legislative elections in Etche had been released.

May Agbamuche-Mbu, the South-South National Electoral Commissioner in charge of Edo, Bayelsa and Rivers, made this known while speaking to journalists in Etche after monitoring the election.

She said the staffer was attacked and kidnapped while on the way to supply election materials to some polling centres.

Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu added that some members of staff attacked and injured during the election had been taken to the hospital.

She decried the increasing incidence of election violence in Rivers.

“Thankfully they have been released; some were injured and we will take care of them, and it has happened again and again (elections) yet Rivers state is boiling.

“We have decided that where elections are peaceful, we will collate results there; where there is violence, we will collate results at the INEC headquarter here in Etche,” she said.

Mrs. Agbamuche-Mbu stated that INEC has always spoken of the need to take election violence seriously.

“And we are thankful that some of the thugs have been arrested and actually what we really want are those leaders who are behind them.

“These young men are sent out to disrupt the election and we must get those who are behind them,” the commissioner said.

She added that the election would be concluded because INEC had collated a significant percentage of the results ready.

Meanwhile, the police have said that some arrests have been made by soldiers.

The spokesperson of the police in the state, Nnamdi Omoni, said, “Hopefully, they are going to hand them over to the police.”
