Lionel Messi reportedly set to marry the mother of his kids, Antonella Roccuzzo

Lionel Messi reportedly set to marry the mother of his kids, Antonella Roccuzzo

Barcelona star Lionel Messi is reportedly set to marry his childhood sweetheart Antonella Roccuzzo next summer.

The wedding is expected to take place in their native city of Rosario in Argentina where they met as children through Lucas Scaglia, Antonella’s footballer cousin and a close friend of Messi.

Local journalist Juan Pablo Varsky broke the news on Wednesday on a radio programme.

City newspaper La Capital said it had confirmed the union with a relative of the footballer’s who told them: “It’s true, there’ll be a wedding the middle of next year."

Leo’s birthday of June 24 is already being talked about as the most likely date.

Messi is expected to return to Rosario around June 12 next year after completing a tour with his club.

The entire Barcelona squad is expected to be invited to the wedding along with some ex-players and most of Argentina’s national squad.

The city cathedral is being touted as a possible venue for the wedding with the subsequent party expected to take place at the Messi family home in Arroyo Seco near Rosario overlooking the Parana River.

There has been no official confirmation yet from Antonella and Leo, who started dating in 2008 and have two children Thiago, 4, and Mateo, one.

The 29-year-old footballer, one year older than his long-term partner, first met supermarket owner’s daughter Antonella when he was nine.

He used to write love letters to her as a teenager but they didn’t formalise their relationship until he was 21.

They didn’t confirm they were dating until 2010 when Antonella travelled to Barcelona for the first time and moved in with her boyfriend.

They became inseparable after the death of a friend of Antonella’s in a road traffic accident shortly before she left Rosario for a new life in Spain.

Woman births baby with two heads in Lagos (Photos)

A woman gave birth to a baby with two heads, on Tuesday at Med-in specialist hospital, Osogbo street, Lagos,  through an elective Caesarean section

Various scans the woman underwent in the course of the pregnancy, indicated that she was having a twins.

The baby was resuscitated and transferred to the Lagos University Teaching Hospital (LUTH) for advance care. According to one of the nurses who was in the delivery room, they had prepared two cots for each of the twins but were shocked when they saw that they were conjoined.

“As I speak to you, the mother doesn’t know the condition of the babies. She still believes and expects to carry her twins. We haven’t told her yet. Only her husband was brought into the theatre to see his children and he was the one who went with the doctors to LUTH,” said the nurse.

The condition is known as Parapagus. It is a rare form of partial twinning where there are two heads and two necks side by side on one torso. Doctors say they cannot be separated since they have only one pair of arms and one pair of legs and one heart.

This disorder is different from conjoined twins as the baby has only one set of internal organs. The extremely rare case is thought to be brought on during the early stages of pregnancy as a result of genetic mutation.

Med-In Hospital Manager, Dare Moses, said the baby was taken to LUTH so that tests can be conducted to ascertain if they share also vital organs like hearts and lungs. The Ministry of Health has been notified of the development.

Premier League!! Chelsea Extend Gap At The Top Of The Premier League After 1-0 Victory At Sunderland

Chelsea moved six points clear at the top of the
Premier League as Cesc Fabregas’ first-half goal
beat a stubborn Sunderland at the Stadium of Light.

Fabregas steered into the far corner from the edge
of the box as the Blues recorded a 10th consecutive
league victory.
Sunderland keeper Jordan Pickford saved from
former Black Cat Marcos Alonso and Willian to
prevent Chelsea from winning by a bigger margin.
The hosts, who had set up to try and nullify their
opponent’s attacking strength, had few chances
although they could have snatched a point in injury
time but Thibaut Courtois superbly denied Patrick
van Aanholt.
It was a hard-fought and important win for Chelsea
after second-pace Arsenal slipped up against
Everton on Tuesday and puts Antonio Conte’s side
in a strong position to end the year at the top of the
table.

My move to China 90% done – Oscar

Chelsea and Brazilian attacking midfielder, Oscar dos Santos, has disclosed that his move to Chinese Super League giants Shanghai SIPG is almost done.

Reports emerged Wednesday morning claiming that Chelsea is ready to let the Brazilian join the Asian club for a fee said to be around €60 million.

Oscar will be reuniting with former manager Andre Villas-Boas after Chelsea accepted an offer.

And the 25-year-old is now expected to complete the move when the transfer window opens in January after claiming that the deal has been finalised.

Oscar told SporTV, “It’s 90 per cent certain.

“It just depends on a few bureaucratic details.”

While at Stanford Bridge, the player has won the Premier League, the Europa League and the EFL Cup.

The attacking midfielder joined Chelsea from Internacional back in 2012 and was a key part of former boss, Jose Mourinho’s plans, particularly during their title-winning campaign of 2014-15, but he has found it difficult under Antonio Conte.

Nigeria loses N305b to fraud in gas flare data

• Senate probes alleged unremitted $5.6b
by NNPC, NPDC
• Reps investigate oil firms over N500
billion debt

Nigeria loses an estimated $1billion (about
N305 billion) in revenue every year due to
the falsification of gas flare data, the Minister
of State for Petroleum Resources, Dr. Ibe
Kachikwu, has revealed.
The minister spoke yesterday in Abuja at a
gas competence seminar with the theme
‘Towards ending gas flaring and unlocking
gas potential in Nigeria.” He hinted that the
Federal Government would set up an
independent tracking mechanism in 2017 to
ascertain the actual volume of gas that was
flared in the country.
“My take is that we lose over half a billion to
a billion of government revenue looking at
the basis of the present penalties position.
Nobody is effectively monitoring the volume,
so when you actually go for the real effect of
what is flared, in terms of statistics, it is
much higher than those figures. However, we
must appreciate the efforts that have been
made in the past to increase penalties, among
others,” Kachikwu said.
According to the minister, there is an urgent
need for the country to devise a policy that
will be targeted at eliminating gas flaring.
“Beginning next year, we will be putting up
an independent tracking mechanism, not
relying on figures from the IOCs and from
the Department of Petroleum Resources
(DPR) to find out what really is the flare
volume. My feeling is that there is a lot of
management of those figures to suit the cap
of the penalties that are being charged,” he
said.
In a related development, the Senate
yesterday began an investigation into an
alleged non-remittance of $5.6 billion by the
Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation
(NNPC) and one of its subsidiaries, the
Nigerian Petroleum Development Company
(NPDC).
Adopting a motion sponsored by Dino Melaye
(APC- Kogi West), the Senate alleged that
from 2013 to date, the NPDC has continued to
lift crude oil from divested wells OML 61, 62
and 63 worth over $3.487billion without
remitting the money to the Federation
Account.
The upper legislative chamber therefore
mandated its committees on Petroleum
Upstream and Finance to investigate the
allegation with a view to recovering the
money due to the Federation Account.
The lawmakers also mandated the NNPC and
NPDC to immediately remit monies obtained
on behalf of the Federal Government to the
Federation Account upon lifting.
After the motion was passed, Senate
President Abubakar Bukola Saraki said: “We
must put an end to this level of
misappropriation and recklessness. This must
stop. I believe that this committee has a duty
to ensure that it works very hard to get to
the bottom of this. Even more worrisome is
the fact that they did it in the last
administration and now they are carrying out
the same practice again. We must put an end
to this, we cannot continue with a situation
where some people are sabotaging the
efforts to fight corruption.”
Also yesterday, the House of Representatives
commenced an investigation of key oil
companies which are allegedly indebted to
the country to the tune of over N500 billion.
The marketers allegedly involved in the huge
indebtedness are Oando, Forte Oil, Total Oil,
Conoil, Masters Energy Oil and Gas Ltd.
Others are MRS Oil and Gas, Heyden
Petroleum, Rahamaniyya Petroleum,
Amicable Petroleum, Aiteo Petroleum,
Honeywell Oil, Capital Oil, Felande
Petroleum, Sharon Oil and Zamson
Petroleum.
The Speaker of the House, Mr. Yakubu
Dogara, who inaugurated the Abdullahi Gaya
led ad-hoc committee justified the move,
saying it was aimed at plugging the loopholes
in existing laws and practices in the
downstream sector of the economy.
Represented by the Chief Whip, Mr. Ado
Doguwa, the speaker said: “We expect that in
no distant future, the committee will be
inviting some companies and individuals to
provide answers to questions as to what
happened to the downstream sector. We
hope that this committee will conduct its
affairs in a serious and corruption-free
manner as the House will not tolerate any
evidence of undue influence or improper
conduct.”
Gaya who reechoed the speaker’s position
said the hearing underlined the resolve by
the lower legislative chamber to return the
country to the path of economic prosperity
The House had adopted a motion sponsored
by Mr. Jarigbe Agom Jarigbe (Ogoja/Yala
Federal Constituency of Cross River State) on
the urgent need to investigate the huge debts
owed the Petroleum Products Marketing
Company (PPMC) by some major and
independent oil marketers.
Jarigbe had alleged that “there is a
connivance and compromise by functionaries
of PPMC to leave government funds in the
hands of these marketers, thereby putting the
country in dire financial straits.”

See 5 reason Ronaldo wins the balon d'or

– Snaps unbeaten Barca run
Real Madrid are currently riding a club record 35-
game unbeaten run, but back in April it was old foes
Barcelona who seemed unbeatable as they carried
a 39-game streak without defeat into El Clasico.
Yet, despite going first a goal and then a man down,
Ronaldo’s late winner silenced the Camp Nou and
signalled a swing in the balance of power
throughout 2016 towards Madrid.

– Wolfsburg wounded
Real’s last defeat came just four days after victory
at the Camp Nou in a shock 2-0 reverse to
Wolfsburg in the first leg of the Champions League
quarter-finals.
However, amidst a typically fervent atmosphere at
the Santiago Bernabeu on a big European night,
Ronaldo inspired a Real fightback with a hat-trick to
win 3-0 and progress to the semi-finals.

– Spot-on in Milan
Ronaldo didn’t manage to score in regulation time in
the Champions League final, but still proved
decisive as Real broke Atletico Madrid hearts for
the second time in three years.
Ronaldo scored the winning penalty as Real won an
11th European Cup 5-3 in a shootout after the sides
couldn’t be separated in a 1-1 draw after 120
minutes in Milan.

– Halts early Portugal exit
Ronaldo described winning Euro 2016 with Portugal
— their first ever major tournament win — as the
“happiest moment of his life”.
However, their unpredictable run to glory in France
could have been so different had Ronaldo not
rescued them from an embarrassing early exit at
the group stages.
After draws against Iceland and Austria, three
times Portugal trailed Hungary in their final group
game only to be bailed out.
Ronaldo teed up Nani for the first equaliser before
scoring two of his three goals in the tournament to
ensure Portugal sneaked through as one of the best
third-placed sides.

– Calderon goodbye
Whilst Ronaldo’s collective achievement in winning
both the Champions League and Euro 2016 was the
reason he won the award, the 31-year-old also
hushed the critics who suggested he was past his
best at the start of this season with a hat-trick to
again vanquish Atletico last month.
In the last ever La Liga clash between Madrid’s two
great rivals at the Vicente Calderon, Ronaldo
became the top scorer of all time in Madrid derbies
to almost certainly banish Atletico from the title
race.

Leave Chelsea now, Rohr tells Mikel

Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has told his
captain, John Obi Mikel that it does not make sense
staying in a club where he cannot be guaranteed
regular football.
Rohr, who was in London to meet with Nike officials,
said it was important that Mikel moves to keep his
career going.
“He is moving come January transfer window. He
cannot stay in a club he is not playing. So he has to
move,” Rohr said.

Rohr had claimed that Mikel is being sidelined by
Chelsea coach Antonio Conte because of the Super
Eagles captain participation in the Rio 2016
Olympics.
But Conte said last weekend that Mikel will not be
leaving in January. Even as he is yet to make a
single appearance under the new Blues boss
despite being cementing his place in the starting XI
under interim Guus Hiddink.
There doesn’t appear to be a role suitable for Mikel
in Conte’s exciting 3-4-3 formation, and academy
product Nathaniel Chalobah has leapfrogged the
Nigerian in the race for a backup spot.
Mikel’s position is weakened further by his
dwindling contract, which expires almost six
months from now.
Conte said: “The situation with Obi Mikel is simple:
he’s in the squad. He stays with us.

Two women found trying to smuggle themselves into Europe inside a pair of suitcases (Photos)

Police got a shock when investigating two
abandoned suitcases on a train to Vienna when they
discovered two Afghan women stuffed inside them.
Romanian border patrol officers stationed in the
town of Curtici entered the luggage compartment of
the train which was travelling to the Austrian capital
having become suspicious of the bags.
After deciding to open them, they found two women
inside, who were trying to reach Austria illegally.
A spokesman for the police force, on the border of
Hungary and Romania, said: 'Following checks we
have established that the two people in question are
from Afghanistan, aged 25 and 59.'
They said that they had later also arrested a man
from Afghanistan who had apparently run away
when he spotted the police officers and was hiding
in a different part of the train pretending to know
nothing about with the suitcases.
The women told police they wanted to get into the
Schengen area and had resorted to using suitcases
because they did not have a valid visa.
Romanian police are now preparing a case against
all three for attempting to illegally cross the state
border.
It was not revealed what punishment they might
face.
